diamond creek market in the 1970's with gay friend Dave. tongue.gif

HOW EMBARRASSMENT!!

Jessypoo
Haha ok Irene, this is for you.

This is me outside of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch in California.

It was seriously the most serene and beautiful place I had ever been in my life and I understand exactly why Michael lives here. There mountains and greenery everywhere you look! And the town centre is so tiny and everyone knows everyone (and they said even Michael comes in from time to time and theyre so unphased by it!). It's great!

^ This pic was taken in New York City in 2002 when I went to see MJ. He was massive over there at the time as he'd just released his album and this billboard was up in the middle of Times Square!! hahha I wanted to ask if maybe I could take it home for my room LOL!

^^ My trip to disneyland last yr in California. Unfortunately I wasnt feeling particularly well or photogenic that day.

This following picture was taken in Los Olivos, California, the town closest to where Michael Jackson lives. I was sitting here with a bunch of MJ fans that I met via the internet. The blond girl (who you can see the back of) is someone Ive been friends with online (shes from Vegas) for 4 years and I finally got to meet her in person and I actually stayed with her and her friend. The guy in the cap is from France, The girl across from me is from England, I'm from Australia (clearly lol) ...it was like the set of a multicultural joke! hahaha. Los Olivos is BEAUTIFUL. I'll never forget that place and I want to go back so bad!

This following pic is of me and one of my closest friends, Dorin, who travelled with me to California. It was about 4am in the morning of our first day. We were ready to go to breakfast and then turn up to the court house to support MJ. (We had to be there at 6am to try to get seats inside the court house)

a pic of a french girl that I made friends with called Sam. We made up a gangsta pose for "the Mike Jack Crew" and .... it was this hahaha. so lame.

Its also around MJs place. smile.gif

Best trip of my life! SO much fun biggrin.gif

^^ The Santa Maria Court House ... where I spent most of my time in California.... where Michael spent most of my time in California. Poor love. hahaha.

It was a fantastic trip. smile.gif

Thats about the only worthwhile trip to post about haha.

xx
Irene~Mamas

Neverland looks truly beautful- did you try to jump in ? i think i may have ohmy.gif and yeh the PEACE thats what people yearn for i think.smile.gif

Disneyland rocks ..!!! i went there too. its the best.
Jessypoo
Hahaha Irene, it really was beautiful and nah we didnt try to sneak in. It wouldnt have mattered cause that entire property is 2900 acres, and from the front gate to the main house is about a km, perhaps more... and man.... LOL Id get about half way, puff myself out and give up and come back LOL. And I didnt want Michael to get to know me by restraining order! LOL.

Another interesting thread Irene. smile.gif Great pics from everyone too.

I will have to get some of my pics scanned this weekend so I can post them. Loved your Greek Island ones, I have been there are couple of times but only to Santorini, Paros and Mykonos but loved it.

You weren't topless in that first shot were you - tsk tsk tsk. I used to do that too, actually on Mykonos if you had clothes on you were weird though I did find it a bit strange that people would be eating their lunch nude in the cafes by the beach, not very hygenic for the next person that would sit in their seats. I kept the bottoms on though unlike those nudey Europeans.

Speaking of nudey Europeans we couldn't believe it when we went to Munich in Germany and there was a park in the middle of the city like the Botanical Gardens and there were all these people wandering around naked. Walking their dogs nude, walking nude, playing sports nude. We thought it was hilarious and wondered where they actually put their clothes as it was literally right in the middle of the city.

My favourite countries that I have visited are Italy, Greece, Switzerland and Portugal.

My fav. places are the Italian Riviera, the Italian Lakes, Venice, Zermatt in Switzerland, The Algarve in Portugal, Santorini and Mykonos.

Wasn't backpacking just the best fun. I went back in 1987 and 1988 and had the best time.

I recommend it to all you younger people. It is such a fun adventure and you meet so many people and get to see and experience so much.

Greece is lovely.

I dont recall if i was topless. ph34r.gif probably was- cos as you said everyone was. Its so much more conservative these days and can seem a bit much but then it wasnt a deal- Somtimes i had a top on and rolled down straps to avoid gettin lines. biggrin.gif always kept my bum covered too LOL

anyway show some of your pics!!!!!!!!

nutra !! you saw more on London than i did !!!! xxxx
Irene~Mamas
OK.. heres a few more of my England Trip so long ago...

warwick castle - not far from where i lived.

I think this is called st Michaels mount .It down in devon the home of my mother. My nanna swam out to it once way back in the 20's or sumthing she was a good swimmer biggrin.gif.

MUm and Joshie at cockington in Devon

This is a real favorite pic. My mum dancing with her dad who
she hadnt seen since she was 11 years old. After their parents
separated they lost touch and it was wonderful for her to meet
him and the half brother she hadnt ever known.

And for me to meet him too- this was the only day i ever
met my grandad. He loved little Josh and saw him as the
grandson not me as his grandaughter ccos the poor man
had skipped a whole generation in his mind. The last he
had heard of my mum was she had gotten married~~

All so utterly sad. blooming pommies and their
'keeping up appearnces'

CASTLE HOWARD, YORKSHIRE

This is where they filmed "Brideshead Revisited" . It was on T V just as we left for England so at that time I only got to watch the first few episodes. They have repeated it and I am watching the series again at the moment, borrowed from Bigpond

We actually saw this by accident. We were tootling down the road and all of a sudden I shrieked "There's a sign pointing to Castle Howard!!!!!" We were staying with Roger's aunt and uncle just out of Scarborough so went and saw it the next day.......

Love these 2 Irene, I didn't get down there so didn't see St Michaels Mount, it has fascinated me ever since I was a young girl tongue.gif tongue.gif I remember we had 500 piece jigsaw puzzles and one of them was St Michael's Mount. I think you can walk across to it at low tide???

Fantastic thread Irene!!
But all my pics are in my mind!!!
Get stacks from my kids .. but don't know where mine are.
Lived out of Australia for years. Favourite places.. Italy (worked as an interpreter in Florence). And naturally did the Perugia thing.
London.. had some very strange things happen there.. turned out one of the places I was working in was the night time venue for one of the biggest spy rings ever. Big picture of my flatmate along with story!!
Travelled thru most of Europe.
And of course Canada - travelled right across - from Vancouver to Montreal.
Lived in Calgary and spent lots of time in Banff.
Along the way had some Canadian kids. And they're scattered everywhere round the world. Youngest son (in London) arrives in 12 days for short visit. Haven't seen him for 3 years.
You've sure brought back some memories.
Thanks heaps Irene.

WHITBY ABBEY YORKSHIRE

This was the most amazing place. These photos were taken around 12.30 pm. I was worried that they wouldn't come out because of all the fog so I was thrilled. I forgot to say for the younger ones, there are a lot of abbeys like this in England. They date back to the time of Henry the 8th. England was a Catholic country. He wanted to divorce and re-marry which the church would not allow. In order to do so, he formed the Church of England and subsequently detroyed as many abbeys/monastries as he could . In fact Catholicism was against the law. The song "12 Days of Christmas" is actually a song made during that time that had hidden meanings so that Catholics could continue to teach their children about the Catholic church/faith

That day we also went to Robin Hood Bay (no photos, sorry) Because it is more or less built down a hill/narrow streets we had to leave our car in the car park and walk down. It was still as foggy as anything and we could see everyone getting out of cars and walking down. There were so many people we thought something must have been happening so we hurried along to see what it was.

We got to the edge and couldn't believe our eyes!!!! The tide was out and there on the rocks (no sand, when the tide is in it would come right up to the edge of the houses) were people stretched out in deck chairs on the rocks IN THE FOG!!!! There were children with buckets playing in the rock pools. It was the funniest sight and I have never forgotten it!!

BOMBED RUINS OF COVENTRY CATHREDAL

This was fascinating. The cathedral was bombed by the Germans during World War 2 . After the war, the reconciliation commenced. Dresden in Germany had also been bombed by the British. The youth in Dresden came to Conventry and the youth in Coventry went to Dresden and each helped the other rebuild parts of their city. Coventry built a new cathedral but left the bombed ruins of the other as a memorial. The 2 blend into each other beautifully. In the second photo you will see "Father Forgive" etched into the wall. The altar's cross was built with charred remains of the roof's beams .

HADRIAN'S WALL

This was built during the Roman occupation of Britain. The Romans had managed to conquer England and Wales, but they weren't able to conquer the "Barbarians" (Scotland tongue.gif tongue.gif ) so the wall was built during Hadrian's reign as Emperor and manned 24/7 to keep them out! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Ooops, will try again.

This was taken in 1987 while backpacking thru Europe. We were staying in Nice on the French Riviera and decided to get the train to Monte Carlo for the day but ended up on the wrong train. By the time we realised we had crossed the border into Italy and ended up in a village in the middle of nowhere with no passports and no more trains for that day. We had no choice but to hitchhike back to Nice which took most of the day. First we were on the wrong road, then it took about 5 different lifts to get back.

cherub2
This was also in 1987 in Munich. That is me on the right.

For a person who rarely drinks and hates beer I somehow got caught up in the atmosphere of the german beer halls in Munich. Each of those glasses (steins) holds one litre of beer and I managed at least two and I don't know how. I think the beer is very weak though and watered down.

nutralady2001
Thanks Cherub, glad I'm not the only one contributing..............it was kinda turning into "my" thread which I didn't want........we stayed in Nice as well.

Would you believe I got horribly sick in Paris, just awful, and the day we left we stopped for petrol at a service station. It was very foggy and we looked down on Monte Carlo, wondering whether or not to go down.We decided not to and continued on our way. When we got to Rome we met some other Aussies.....we met Aussies EVERYWHERE, LOL....and they told us that Princess Grace had been killed. We had been nearly 3 weeks without news!!!!

We worked out that the morning we looked down on Monte Carlo would have been the day of her funeral so thank goodness we didn't go down
cherub2
I finally worked out how to use photobucket.

It's amazing how when you are travelling you are oblivious to what is going on in the world.

Yes, after we left Paris we had spent several weeks at my in-laws holiday cottage in the South of France, it was off the beaten track in one of those quaint little villages.............so no newspapers/radio etc etc, and I don't think we met another English speaking person til we got to the Rome.......just one of those things

STONEHENGE

Ben and myself

This was amazing. My husband hadn't been there for years and was disappointed that you could no longer walk right up amongst the stones as he had been able to do when he was younger before he came to Australia. I can understand though, even when we were there( 1983) they had just cleaned off some graffiti

this is from when i went to cancun 2 years ago. we visited the hyatt cancun for a "Free breakfast", only to find out that these people wanted to sell us timeshare! well, we got a free breakfast out of it, so it was a win/lose situation, lmao!

when i go on vacation, i prefer taking pics of scenery, not people. the only reason i take pics of people is to have proof that i was actually there, lmao!

more pics to come! biggrin.gif
